Tired much? OVERWHELMED? Many of us are suffering from low grade to full blown adrenal dysfunction resulting is symptoms like chronic tiredness, chronic cold- flu-ish ? symptoms, sleeplessness, anxiety, irritability, persistent protective layer of fat around belly—You could say that even if you don’t feel stressed that simply by living in a city environment, our adrenals are constantly dripping the stress hormone #cortisol WAY more than what’s normal. One way to begin the healing process to get back to feeling normal, balanced and vibrant ( Besides Soul Based practices which I’ll cover in this weekly #thenourishedwoman newsletter) is to slowly wean off caffeine and Introduce, that is -ADD IN- #adaptogens . Healthy eating is not about deprivation but adding IN.

What IS an Adaptogen? It’s a herb or plant or root that makes your body more easily adapted to stress symptoms + they are deep immune tonics~~ meaning they BOOST your immunity deeply + slowly over time. Some examples are ashwaganda, maca, holy basil, and medicinal mushrooms ? like reishi. Abby’s Iced Chai Adaptogenic Latte

Blend in your blendy:

  • 1-2 tsp of a premixed powder blend chai ( or brew your own with chai spices in hot water and let cool) I like this one.
  • 1 cup your fave plant-based milk ( I use coconut milk or make your own home-made nut milk!)
  • 2 tsp high quality adaptogenic medicinal mushroom blend— I love local Vancouver Harmonic Arts one.
  • 1 tsp maca powder
  • 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil or coconut butter aka coconut manna if you’re feeling extra ultra cleopatra
  • 1-2 tbsp Collagen powder– I love Organika’s microfine one.
  • 1-2 tsp honey, monk fruit sweetener, maple syrup, stevia, etc….
  • ice for blended or pour over, your choice.

The healthy fats here are excellent for maintaining balanced blood sugar levels and boosting metabolism, and collagen is a tasteless protein that is amazing for strengthening hair, skin and nails, not to mention healing the gut lining.
